Asthma is a respiratory disorder which causes attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, as well as coughing and a feeling of tightness in the chest. Though it can occur at any age, almost half of all cases are found in children under the age of 10. Childhood cases are sometimes "outgrown" by adulthood, or at least lessen in severity as the children grow older. However, for many other individuals it remains a life-long problem. Adult-onset asthma is also on the rise.
