The peripheral vascular system is simply the network of all the veins and arteries in your body, with the exception of your heart and brain. Veins carry blood to your heart, and arteries carry blood to the other parts of your body. A diagnosing physician will need to examine all of your extremities-your arms and your legs-in order to figure out whether or not there's anything wrong with your peripheral vascular system. He or she may ask you to remove your stockings or your socks before taking a pulse measurement in your feet. Don't worry, this is totally normal.
